Prof. Dr. Paulo B. Lourenço,

Department of Civil Engineering, University of Minho, Guimarães, Portugal and Co-Head of the Institute in Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering.

He is experienced in the fields of NDT, advanced experimental and numerical techniques, innovative strengthening techniques and earthquake engineering. He is specialist in structural repair, conservation and strengthening, with works in several World Heritage sites, such as Cathedral of Porto, Monastery of Jeronimos (Lisbon), Castle of Guimaraes, Qutb Minar (New Delhi) or Canterbury Cathedral (UK). He has worked in more than 50 monuments in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Cyprus, Iran, India, UK and Morocco. He is also a structural masonry expert, responsible for R&D projects with the clay brick, concrete block and lightweight concrete block masonry. He has worked as consultant on innovative masonry structures in Portugal using confined and reinforced masonry, and on masonry infills in large projects, including three Euro 2004 stadiums for European soccer championship in Portugal. He is Editor of the "International Journal of Architectural Heritage: Conservation, Analysis and Restoration", Editor of the Conference Series "Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions" and Coordinator of the European Erasmus Mundus Master Course on "Structural Analysis of Monuments and Historical Constructions". Supervisor of over 40 completed PhD theses and coordinator of several national and international research projects. He is author or co-author of more than 1000 technical and scientific publications in the fields of masonry, timber and concrete structures, with an h-index of 29.

 

Prof. Dr. Niko Pojani,

Department of Mechanics of Structures, Polytechnic University of Tirana, Albania 

Prof. Niko Pojani is a professor of the Department of Structural Mechanics at Faculty of Civil Engineering, UPT, Albania. Professor Pojani's area of research and teaching covers structural mechanics, seismic and earthquake engineering, innovative strengthening techniques, etc. Professor Pojani is a frequent invited speaker and active participant in national and international scientific activities and a main contributor to a number of scientific and engineering projects. He has authored over 50 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and conference proceedings.

Prof. Pojani has a major contribution in several scientific projects, including the review and improvement of building codes in Albania, seismic safety of structures, as well as seismic vulnerability and risk assessment in Albania and Balkan Region. Supervisor of many doctoral thesis, and author of many books in structural mechanics, advanced numerical methods and earthquake engineering, Prof. Pojani is considered one of the greatest contributor in the scientific and educational development of civil engineering in Albania.
